District Teacher of the Year!

“Be the change you want to see in the world”. A quote that I have lived by for years, especially when I first became a teacher. My name is Tramainia Hooper-Cooper and I reside in Drew, Ms. I am a 3rd Grade teacher at A. W. James Elementary School in Drew, Ms. I am a mother to one daughter, Breyanna Hooper, and a wife to a very supportive husband, Levon Cooper. I am a 1998 graduate of West Tallahatchie High School in Webb, Ms. I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Mississippi Valley State University and a Master of Art in Elementary Education at Delta State University. I am currently pursuing an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration at Arkansas State University. I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Theta Phi Zeta Chapter of Mound Bayou, Ms.

Teaching young minds is a day- to- day task that cannot be taken lightly. This job is full of excitement, frustrations, challenges, and responsibilities. However, I enjoy teaching and I believe that all children are capable of learning. It is my duty to see that all of my students are motivated to learn because they deserve the best education in life that will prepare them for the future. My desire is for my students to become life-long learners, because I am one myself. By providing quality education to my students, I feel that I am that change I want to see in them!

The Mississippi Teacher of the Year Program (MTOY) recognizes outstanding performance by public school teachers.  Each local school district may nominate one teacher for the state title.  The 2017 Mississippi Teacher of the Year must be a certified classroom teacher (K-12 standard license) in a state-accredited public school who plans to teach next year.  The teacher should have a superior ability to inspire students, possess leadership capabilities and be an active member of the community.
